Up in the High Country

Day 1: Well, after 3 hours of driving and nearly 200 miles, Liz and I have officially made it to Boone, North Carolina. We've already checked in and have driven through downtown Boone and App State. Hopefully we'll have a few pictures to upload as the weekend unfolds. :-)

Day 2: Today we decided to get a breath of fresh air and leave the hectic activity and hustle and bustle of college town Boone.  We took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway for about 100 miles round trip.  'Twas something that we both wanted to do and something that I have dreamed of doing ever since I was a wee little kid.  Even though it was only a tiny little chunk of the parkway, it was enjoyable.  I do plan on going back to it one day and driving it end to end and making various stops along the way to take pictures and what not.

During our trek, we made a stop at the Linville Falls.  After about a 3/4 mile hike to the falls, we made it to the Upper Falls. The upper falls themselves were quite interesting, but it was what was just a little further downstream that caught both of our attentions.  It was cool watching the Linville River wind it's way through the little canyon it had carved over (presumably) tens of thousands of years.  Unfortunately, we didn't make it up to the Chimney overlook nor the Erwin overlook.  All in all, it was a very interesting day and quite fun.  Hopefully tomorrow will be just as fun.

Day 3 (Last Day): Well, today was our last day in the great city of Boone. It's unfortunate that we weren't able to stay longer, we needed a few extra days just to experience a few more things locally and within an hour or so of the area. We made a quick stop at Blowing Rock and after fighting the frigid cold and 20-40 mile per hour winds, I managed to get a couple of panoramas of the views. I'm hoping to have them stitched together by the end of the week, and posted on here. After that, we drove around town and up and down a couple of mountains to waste a few hours before beginning the hunt for the new Watauga (spelling?) High School. Right about that time the snow started to fall (picture to be posted soon of us fighting the weather). After that, there wasn't much else to do. To cold and windy for us to enjoy walking around in the downtown area, so we went to dinner, and settled in for the evening.

Day 4 (Heading Home): Not much to discuss here except the fact that there was about 2-3 inches of very fresh soft powder snow on my car. After a quick brush off and a cycle of my wipers, we were good to go.

It's sad to say, that we're back in town, heading back into normality. I'm going to sort through the handful of pictures that were taken, stitch together the panoramas, and have them posted along with a couple of other galleries over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned!

Back Online

After a brief period of downtime (a couple of weeks), the site is back online.  I'll be rebuilding all of the pages and galleries will slowly start filtering in.  I'm going to try and do a few tutorials as well (maybe).  Anyways, it's good to have the site back online.
